Abstract :
Music and dance are political instruments for identity and empowerment of Afromexican population in the process of recognition of their social and ethnic rights in the country. The talk “Somos negros de la Costa” addresses a collaborative project of musical workshops directed to Afromexican youth to explore and practice their own music, to strengthen their cultural identity and to promote their participation in the movement for social recognition.
